Frequently Asked Questions

How can I wash my sweater, gloves, mittens and other wool products?

For DACHSTEIN WOOLWEAR: Add the recommended amount of delicate wool wash, such as Eucalan, to a tub or sink of lukewarm water and follow the wash instructions. For Eucalan, you will allow the wool to soak for about 15 minutes. There is no need to rinse. Drain the water, gently squeeze, and do not wring. Dry flat, do not hang.

FOR NORWEGIAN WOOL (DALE OF NORWAY, VRIKKE, and NORLENDER):

Dry clean only. These garments have complex colors and patterns and hand washing may lead to color bleed or fading.

how do i dry my Dachstein Woolwear?

Please do not use a dryer on any wool garment. It will shrink. While air drying your clothes is not as rapid as using a dryer, it will preserve the life of your garments. We air dry all our clothes--not just wool! If you want your clothes to be the same size, shape, and color as the day you bought them, try air drying! We promise, you won't regret it.

Am I going to have to wash my wool garment each time I wear it?

Actually, no. Wool is a natural fiber with antibacterial properties. You will find that your wool garments smell clean and fresh with many uses, unlike synthetic clothing.

Isn't wool itchy?

No, it shouldn't be! In fact, the more you wash it, the softer the wool will be.

Certain varieties of wool are prized for their softest and luxury such as Merino wool and Blue Faced Leicester.

That being said, if you have sensitive skin or eczema which is irritated by many natural products, you may want to consider wearing a layer between the wool and your skin to minimize irritation. We have found many customers use layering to build resistance against the cold whether they have sensitive skin or not.

Why is wool becoming more popular again?

Within the past decade, high-end fashion designers have returned to wool for its luxurious feel and versatility. Wool is a great choice for clothing because it is a natural organic fiber that can be used in a variety of climates and in a variety of settings from casual to formal. People are also demanding more sustainable and natural clothing as concerns about chemicals and the environment rise.

Why should I make an investment in wool?

Wool is a great investment because with the proper care it will last a lifetime. We have customers today that tell us they are still wearing their wool sweaters and accessories they bought forty years ago! We can't think of a better garment to stand by than one that will last decades and can be worn by many generations.

Where does your wool come from and where are your garments made?

Our wonderful woolens come straight from Austria and Norway where they are locally sourced and made. If you would like to know more, you can read all about it here
